About Ronald Willis
Ronald Willis is a Baltimore property owner, veteran, mentor, and proud 1973 graduate of Morgan State College, where he earned a degree in sociology. Raised in East Baltimore, Willis learned early to look beyond his immediate surroundings and imagine a larger life, using ambition, planning, and perseverance to build opportunities beyond what he had seen growing up.
After Morgan, Willis accepted a position with Bethlehem Steel during a pivotal period when major companies were beginning to recruit qualified Black graduates from HBCUs. When he was asked to resign from a role he believed he could perform, Willis chose to advocate for himself, challenged the decision, and returned to build a fourteen-year career as a safety engineer, becoming the negotiator between labor and management on the shop floor.
That safety training became the foundation for a second career. When Willis bought his first Baltimore home in 1976, he planned to live in it and eventually sell it. Instead, he was encouraged to keep it and become a landlord. That decision launched a property ownership journey that has continued for nearly five decades, built on the same OSHA and safety knowledge he used to evaluate houses long before he ever paid for a home inspection.
His company, Snooky's Apartment Properties, honors his mother, Snooky, who rented rooms in the family home and taught him the principle he still lives by: use what you have to get what you want. Alongside his real estate career, Willis completed over two decades of military service across the Army National Guard, Navy Reserve, Air Guard, and Army Reserve, and today he mentors aspiring property owners, including Jackson, who joined him for this episode as part of his own journey toward becoming a landlord.
